Wehkamp: Strengthening the leading online lifestyle department store in the Netherlands
Transacting with c. 90% of all Dutch households, Wehkamp is the largest pure play e-commerce platform in the Netherlands where its brand has over the years become a household name.
The company’s core verticals include fashion, sports & leisure, beauty & wellness, home & garden, and electronics & household appliances, catering for the typical middle class family needs.
Founded in 1952 by Herman Wehkamp, the company is headquartered in Zwolle and today serves over 1.7 million clients, sending over 7 million packages per year.
Wehkamp generates over €700m in revenues and close to €50m EBITDA.
Supporting the company’s long-term growth and wider product offering
In July 2015, Wehkamp announced that it had been acquired by Apax Partners, a leading private equity investor with a strong track record in both consumer, e-retail and the Netherlands.
Over its holding period, Apax will support Wehkamp to help it strengthen its position in the Netherlands.
Development is expected to come from market growth, focused but wider product offering, state of the art distribution technology and a repositioning of the complementary consumer finance offering.
The new capital injection will also enable Wehkamp to implement its innovations rapidly with an emphasis on customer experience, a broader assortment and the best service.
