Sale of posterXXL to Photobox

GCA Altium acted as exclusive financial adviser to the shareholders of posterXXL AG, a leading provider of personalised photo printing services in Germany, on its sale to Photobox Group, one of the European leaders in digital consumer services for personalised products and gifts. For GCA Altium’s Internet and eCommerce practice this represents the 11th deal to date in 2015, underscoring GCA Altium’s position as the leading adviser in this sector.

Founded in 2004, posterXXL has built a leading position in the German online personalised printing space. The company has been a pioneer in the online large format photo printing (posters, canvas prints, and framed prints) market. posterXXL is a high-profile brand with a significant presence in Germany and Austria in particular. The company shows strong growth and reported revenues of € 39m and an EBITDA of € 8m in the financial year 2014/15.

Photobox has acquired 100% of the outstanding shares in posterXXL. The transaction will significantly boost PhotoBox’s presence in Germany and strengthen its position in the European B2C market for personalized products and gifts. posterXXL will continue to operate under its brand and complements PhotoBox’s current portfolio which includes the brands PhotoBox, Moonpig, PaperShaker, Sticky9, Hofmann, and Posterjack.

Christian Schnagl, Founder and CEO of posterXXL said: “This is a combination of two of the most successful and innovative businesses in the photo printing space in Europe. The team and I are excited to be joining PhotoBox to continue expanding posterXXL and to participate in the creation of one of the largest B2C personalisation businesses in Europe.”

Tobias Schultheiss, Managing Director at GCA Altium, said: “This transaction forms a leading specialist in the European online personalized B2C printing industry. We are delighted that posterXXL has found an ideal partner to fully support posterXXL’s future growth ambitions.”
