Logipard sold to ARM
Provider of the latest major video compression technology
Anoto is a Swedish publicly listed company concentrating on digital pen technology.
Out of its operations it had grown a video technology subsidiary called Logipard, a developer of semiconductor IP, hardware and software for power-efficient video encode and decode acceleration. Logipard in its own right eventually grew into significant operations, with broad application beyond Anoto’s core operations, which led to the sale of the Company to release the value created in the subsidiary.
Logipard’s video technology has shipped in more than 30 million mobile phones to date. The Company is the leading provider of video IP to one of the world’s leading mobile technology suppliers for platforms used by LG Electronics and two other leading mobile handset OEMs.
Providing an integrated multimedia platform post acquisition
UK-listed ARM Holdings, the world’s largest semiconductor IP company, acquired Logipard to add video encoders to its product range of IP cores.
The acquisition adds world-class video and imaging technology to the ARM portfolio, making it the only IP provider with the in-depth experience and understanding required to meet the market need for an entire range of system elements, from memory controllers, interconnect, application and embedded processors to graphics processors, video engines, physical IP and embedded firmware.
The combination of the Mali graphics processor, the video processor technology acquired with Logipard, and ARM’s own processors would allow ARM to provide customers with an integrated multimedia platform. Such integrated capabilities are highly important for mobile computers, portable media players and digital TVs.
