GCA Altium advises bergfex on its sale to Russmedia Equity Partners
GCA Altium has advised bergfex, Europe’s largest tourism platform for outdoor activities in the Alpine region, on the sale of a majority stake to Russmedia Equity Partners.
bergfex, based in Graz, Austria, was founded in 1999 by Markus Kümmel, Oliver Jusinger and Andreas Koßmeier, who will remain at the firm both in an operational capacity and as shareholders. bergfex offers simple solutions online and via apps for planning leisure time in the mountains – comprising information on regional highlights, winter and summer holidays, ski resorts, weather, accommodation, snow depths, events, hiking, mountain biking, family holidays, wellness and much more. 65 million mountain sports enthusiasts put their trust in bergfex every year to plan their activities.
The outdoor and alpine sports sector has been experiencing strong growth for years and bergfex is at the forefront of this segment. With its websites and apps – which have been downloaded over five million times – it demonstrates how smartphones can help to create exciting Alpine experiences.
Russmedia Equity Partners is part of the Russmedia Group and invests in digital marketplaces, aggregators and Saas solutions. Russmedia Equity Partners’ portfolio currently comprises 20 profitable platforms in six European countries, including the ski rental portal alpinresorts .com.
“We are delighted to have found a strong partner in Russmedia, a family business with a history of over 100 years which shares our vision of sustainable entrepreneurship. Within the Russmedia network, bergfex can continue its growth as an independent, founder-managed company while continuously developing new services for mountain sports enthusiasts,” said Markus Kümmel, founder of bergfex.
“The founders of bergfex have created a great Austrian company that revolutionises alpine sports with the help of technology. We are very pleased to make this strong brand even more successful together with the founders,” said Eugen B. Russ, Managing Director of Russmedia Equity Partners.
