e-Travel sold to Etraveli

e-Travel: A Greek success story in the European online travel space

Based in Athens, e-Travel has developed and successfully executed on a technology and data-focused strategy that has taken the company to a leading position in the market for meta-originated flight bookings.

One of the biggest players across the globe in this segment, e-Travel is also one of the most successful start-up ventures in Greece: launched in 2007, the company has reached a gross sales volume of EUR 450m with customers in more than 200 countries.

With a robust position in Eastern Europe and growing presence in the Middle East and Asia-Pacific, e-Travel has seen strong phenomenal growth coupled with industry leading margins in recent years.

Combining with Etraveli to create a dominant position in the global meta-driven flights booking market

Etraveli, a global flight-centric and data-driven online travel platform originating from Sweden, has been acquired by CVC Capital Partners in the Summer of 2017.

The combination with e-Travel marks its first transaction under its new ownership, and contributes to Etraveli’s goal of becoming Europe’s leading online travel company evolving around flights.

The two companies have very little overlap in terms of geographical footprints, making this transaction highly complementary. In addition, both have seen rapid growth and expansion to a variety of markets in the recent years, which they expect to continue.

Mathias Hedlund, CEO of Etraveli, said: “I am delighted that we have found a like-minded partner in e-Travel that shares our vision and has complementary strengths that will help take our business to the next level.”

GCA Altium acted as sole financial advisor to the sellers.
