Kazuo Sakairi is a Managing Director and Head of Asia Region (SE Asia, India, Greater China) of GCA Corporation. He has over 25 years of M&A advisory experience working for leading Japanese financial institutions. As Head of Asia Region, he is responsible for GCA’s subsidiaries in India, China, Singapore, Vietnam and Taiwan where he is also a board member.
Kazuo joined GCA in June 2006 and has successfully advised numerous landmark transactions including Nikko Cordial Group’s tender offer by Citigroup, Japan Tobacco’s (“JT”) acquisition of Katokichi, JT’s divestiture of its beverage and vending machine businesses to Suntory Beverage and Tokyo Electric & Power’s (“TEPCO”) merger with Chubu Electric & Power. In addition, Kazuo’s deal experience extends across a wide range of transaction types and sectors in both buy and sell-side situations as well as distressed and restructuring transactions.
Kazuo began his career at The Bank of Tokyo (currently MUFG Bank) in 1988 where he specialized in cross-border transactions. In 1995 he was transferred to the Investment Banking Group in New York, where he advised major Japanese trading, electronics and engineering companies in their divestiture of US subsidiaries as sell-side advisor. After spending more than 7 years in New York, he was promoted to lead MUFG Securities’ Corporate Advisory team for the Construction, Real Estate, Transportation, Logistics and Consumer Retail sectors and advised many clients in this area.
Kazuo graduated from Keio University, where he majored in Political Science.
