GCA Altium advises sofatutor on its investment from a consortium led by EMERAM and Gimv
sofatutor was founded in Berlin in 2008. Its diverse offering includes more than 11,000 videos, interactive exercises and worksheets covering 14 key school subjects. Students can access materials flexibly via sofatutor’s web-based platform or app and have a real-time chat about homework with qualified teachers. Currently, sofatutor has more than 1 million users and 25% of teachers across Germany use its services.
sofatutor plans to close the gap in online learning and improve access to first-class education through innovation in terms of its offering. The firm plans to expand its B2C learning service in DACH, a market of over 11 million students where it already provides the most comprehensive digital learning platform, and also aims to break into the B2B market, which offers considerable potential. In addition, sofatutor expects continued growth driven by the effects of COVID-19.
Stephan Bayer, CEO of sofatutor and co-founder of the company, said: “With more than 1 million users and its large network of teachers who integrate content from the platform into their lessons, sofatutor has long been the leading provider of digital learning offerings. With the new consortium of investors, we have strong partners at our side to accompany us through our next growth phase. Innovative digital learning opportunities will continue to be our DNA – and we want to support schools, teachers and students outside of school and also provide digital learning content for when schools are in session. GCA Altium provided us with invaluable support and managed a dynamic process which, in combination with their deep sector knowledge and investor access, enabled us to find the best partners for sofatutor’s next growth phase.”
