GCA Altium advises SISTER on its investment in The SpringHill Company

GCA Altium has acted as exclusive financial advisor to SISTER on its investment in The SpringHill Company, a new company created from the combination of three media firms owned by LeBron James and Maverick Carter.

The SpringHill Company, which will employ over 100 people, comprises James and Carter’s production outfit SpringHill Entertainment, media and consumer product vehicle UNINTERRUPTED and brand agency The Robot Company. The firms are responsible for productions including Graduate Together, Space Jam: A New Legacy and The Wall. The SpringHill Company has also just signed a TV production deal with Walt Disney Co. and is working with Netflix on a basketball-themed movie that will star Adam Sandler. It has already released Self Made on the platform, starring Octavia Spencer and based on the life of African American self-made millionaire Madam C.J. Walker.

SISTER, formed in 2019, is an independent global content company built upon the foundation of Sister Pictures, the Emmy award-winning producer of Chernobyl and Giri/Haji. Founded by Elisabeth Murdoch, Jane Featherstone and Stacey Snider, the co-owners have combined their collective expertise, track records and a shared commitment to creating break out, genre-defining narrative content for multiple platforms.

SISTER is investing in The SpringHill Company alongside financial services companies Guggenheim Investments and UC Investments, as well as investor Jason Stein’s SC. Holdings. The company’s new board will include SISTER’s Elisabeth Murdoch, Serena Williams, Apollo Global Management co-founder Marc Rowan, investment banker Paul Wachter, Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino, and Tom Werner, the Boston Red Sox chairman.

Commenting on the investment, James said: “I’ve always wanted to use the platform of basketball to empower those around me. Now I’m incredibly excited about the opportunity to build a company that empowers creators, consumers, and everything it touches.”

Carter added: “Together with our new partners and incredible team, we are building a consumer and entertainment business that’s committed to diversity, that’s unafraid to stand up for what we believe in and that’s resonating with our community.”

This is the latest in a series of deals that GCA Altium has worked on with SISTER, including the launch of the group in autumn 2019.
