GCA Altium advises Novum Capital on the sale of C.C. Umwelt to Waterland-backed Blue Phoenix Group
C.C. Umwelt is headquartered in Krefeld, Germany, and operates across six further sites in Germany. Novum Capital acquired C.C. Umwelt at the beginning of 2018 from six non-profit and family foundations set up by the company’s founder. Subsequently, Novum Capital successfully consolidated the company by focussing, in particular, on its core business areas. Novum Capital also helped to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of C.C. Umwelt’s operations and invested considerably into modernisation, making C.C. Umwelt a technology leader in the German circular economy. The firm recovers valuable metals and, in turn, preserves raw materials and reduces emissions by around 400,000 tons of CO2 equivalents annually.
The Blue Phoenix Group was formed in 2015 when private equity investment group Waterland acquired and merged British and Dutch waste management companies Ballast Phoenix and Inashco.
The Blue Phoenix Group is a strong strategic fit for C.C. Umwelt – the combination brings together two leading technologies for non-ferrous metal refining, creating an even stronger pan-European player. Customers will benefit from long-term, reliable services that meet the highest technical standards and the continued improvement of end-of-waste technologies for slag processing. The Blue Phoenix Group and C.C. Umwelt are planning to open further locations in Germany and Europe over the next years.
This transaction constitutes GCA’s 32nd in the ESG space since the beginning of 2020.
